Severe threat shifts east for Tuesday and Wednesday

The storm system that has produced numerous tornadoes and severe weather reports across the deep South is headed towards the Midlands. However, we don’t believe the intensity of the storms will be the same.

The threat for the Midlands is mainly straight line wind damage for any storms that get going Tuesday afternoon and into the overnight hours of early Wednesday.

Other threats like tornadoes and damaging hail can’t be ruled out. We want you to be WEATHER AWARE the next few days.

A cold front will take it’s time to get here and will not pass until Wednesday and it will still be in the Carolinas on Thursday. This means that until it passes, we have the potential for some storms.

Tuesday:
Rain and storm chances go up after 3 p.m. to 40% for the Midlands. I believe the worst of the weather will stay mainly in the Upstate and northern South Carolina. However, any storms that become discrete cells we will have to watch. The atmosphere is set-up in a way that any discrete storm has the potential to start spinning and produce a tornado or straight-line wind damge, hail, etc.

Tuesday night:
The storm threat continues for the Midlands overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Again, main threat is in the Upstate, but there could be a few discrete storms across the Midlands.

Wednesday morning:
We could see a break in the storm intensity for a few hours Wednesday morning. Same basic rules as above apply.

Wednesday P.M.:
Another threat of a line of storms moving in near lunch time and after. Rain/storm chances 80% for Wednesday.

Early Thursday morning:
A few forecast models have the cold front passing early Thursday morning which could allow for a few more storms to get going before we clear things out on Thursday.

All of this isn’t to scare or hype this event. It’s simply to make sure you are WEATHER AWARE the next few days. We will be here with you if you need us.
